202411.26 Exploring Writing Mechanisms in Second Language Through the Integration of Behavioral and Neuroscience Methods (New Research Grant Awarded) Posted in Information

We are thrilled to announce the successful award of the TOEFL COE 2025 Research Program grant for our collaborative project between Tohoku University, Japan, and University College London, UK.
Led by:

  • Prof. Andrea Révész (Principal Investigator, University College London)
  • Prof. Sathena Chan (Co-PI, University of Bedfordshire)
  • Prof. Hyeonjeong Jeong (Co-PI, Tohoku University)
  • Prof. Motoaki Sugiura (Co-PI, Tohoku University)
This groundbreaking study explores the cognitive and neuro-mechanisms underlying writing behaviors in second language learners.
The project focuses on the TOEFL iBT Writing section, employing cutting-edge methodologies such as neuroimaging, eye-tracking, and keystroke-logging. By integrating applied linguistics and cognitive neuroscience, it aims to uncover the cognitive processes involved in second language writing, providing new insights into test validation and language learning.
This ambitious research tackles a novel and challenging topic, offering a unique opportunity to advance scientific knowledge and foster innovative applications in language education. (Jeong)
