NEWS ニュース 202509.17 Social and Embodied Language Learning (Symposium at International Conference) Posted in Presentation I had the pleasure of co-organizing and presenting at a symposium at ICON 2025 – International Conference on Cognitive Neuroscience (Porto, Portugal, September 15–20, 2025). On September 17 (9:00–10:45), together with Piia Astikainen (University of Jyväskylä), I co-organized the symposium “Language & Music III SY41: Social and Embodied Language Learning.” The symposium included the following presentations: Hyeonjeong Jeong (Tohoku University): How Social Experiences Shape the Bilingual Brain: fMRI Studies of L2 Learning Xueqiao Li & Piia Astikainen (University of Jyväskylä): Phonetic and Word Learning in Adulthood: Effects of Social Interaction and Audiovisual Input Ana Zappa (University of Barcelona): How Social Cues Shape Second Language Learning: Evidence from Pupillometry, EEG, and Eye-Tracking Gal Rozic & Gabriella Vigliocco (University College London): Learning Abstract Concepts in Social Interaction: An Investigation of Behavioural and Brain Dynamics It was a wonderful experience to exchange ideas, receive thoughtful feedback, and engage in inspiring discussions on social interaction and embodied language learning, which provided valuable insights for our future research.
