How do we perceive “self-image”?

We naturally perceive and evaluate ourselves, however, it is not always accurate.
For example, people with anorexia tend to think they are overweight even though they are underweight.
My aim is to uncover perception and recognition mechanisms related to "self-image" and "body-image" through psychophysical and fMRI studies.

Lookism, where too much emphasis is placed on appearance when evaluating individuals, has become a social problem. Assistant Professor Yumi Hamamoto at Frontier Research Institute for Interdisciplinary Sciences has developed a research plan to tackle this problem by combining MRI and VR, which has been adopted as a research project for 2024 in the PRESTO research area “Creating Human-Centered Interaction to Solve Social Issues”(Hamamoto)
