General Support Skills Training for fMRI Experiments

1. skills to be acquired through this program
As a member of an fMRI experimental team, the trainee will be able to provide general operational support under the direction of the site supervisor and safety officer.
2. how to complete the training
To complete this training course, the trainee must watch the safety instruction video, take the sections on general experimental skills and experimental skills related to MRI and fMRI, and participate in the MRI tour to provide experimental support. Please read 2.1 to 2.5 of the course instructions and then click on each link to take the training items. Please follow the instructions on each link to complete the course. After confirming that you have completed all the courses according to the attached table, please submit the course report in section 2.6.

2.1. Safety Instruction Video
The safety instuction video must be viewed before the experiment at the Brain MRI Center and the Brain MRI Center and MRI Tour.
2.2. general laboratory skills
Please take the three training courses in the General Experimental Skills section: 1. and 2. consist of online content, and 3. consist of online content and hands-on practice.
  1. Recruitment of experimental participants
  2. Explanation of the experiment and obtaining consent
  3. Behavioral experiments and questionnaires

2.3. training in experimental skills related to MRI and fMRI
Please take the 8 training courses in Experimental Skills for MRI and fMRI.1. and 4. are from the online content, and the other training courses are from the online content and hands-on practice.

  2. MRI Hazards and Safety Measures
  3. Understanding the structure of MRI equipment
  4. fMRI experimental setup
  5. Operation of MRI equipment
  6. Setup and operation of fMRI equipment (stimulus presentation and response recording)
  7. Visual acuity measurement and correction
  8. Handling of experimental equipment and consumables

2.4. Participation in MRI Tour
Please participate in the Brain MRI Center and MRI Tour after completing the other training items.
2.5. 30h training (experimental support experience)
The trainees must have at least 3 projects and at least 30 hours of experience in MRI machines managed by the Brain MRI Center at Tohoku University or MRI machines at other institutions.
2.6. Report of training
Please report your training completed using the Google form for the fMRI Experimental General Support Skills Training Program Certification of Training. After confirming the content of the training, a certificate of completion will be issued in about one week.
