NEWS ƒjƒ…[ƒX 202410.11 Exploring New Vocabulary Acquisition Research Using Brain Imaging Technique Posted in Event Exploring New Vocabulary Acquisition Research Using Brain Imaging Technique Dr. Joe Barcroft (Washington University in St. Louis), a world-renowned specialist in second language vocabulary acquisition research, joined us as a speaker. We were pleased to have participants from various research backgrounds, including undergraduate and graduate students and faculty members from outside Miyagi Prefecture, including those from the Kansai and Kanto regions. We had a heated discussion about future research combining vocabulary acquisition and brain science. We look forward to future research on vocabulary acquisition using brain measurement to see how vocabulary knowledge is represented in the brain as a result of exposure to acoustically varied input. Ryuya Komuro, a postdoctoral researcher at Tohoku University, also gave an update on his latest vocabulary research. The reception after their lectures was also a lively time of talking about their research and life in Sendai. yDate & Timez October 11 (Friday): 16:30`18:10 (reception 19:00`) yVenuez 3F, Smart Aging Building, Institude of Development, Aging & Cancer (IDAC), Tohoku University ySchedulez ¦LanguageFEnglish 16:30 – 17:00@ Speaker 1: Ryuya Komuro (Tohoku University) Title: Semantic elaboration task for L2 homograph learning: An extension of Kida and Barcroft (2019) 17:10 – 18:10@ Speaker 2: Joe Barcroft (Washington University in St. Louis) Title: Toward a theory of acoustically varied input and vocabulary learning: How can fMRI research help?
