At the JEONG Lab, we investigate how people learn and use multiple languages, and how the brain supports these processes. Using neuroimaging techniques such as fMRI and behavioral experiments, we explore how memory, emotion, and social interaction influence language.
We also aim to uncover, from both neurocognitive and social perspectives, the mechanisms by which individuals learn languages, communicate, and make multilingual and culturally grounded behavioral choices in diverse and international contexts.

Emotion and Memory in the Brain: Multimodal Insights from Language, Gesture, and Psychophysiology
—International Academic Exchange: Tohoku University × University of Jyväskylä—

Event Overview
We held an interdisciplinary seminar exploring the role of multimodal signals in human communication and memory.
The event opened with a hands-on workshop led by Dr. Xueqiao Li, a visiting researcher from the University of Jyväskylä, Finland, offering a general introduction to emotion-related measures. The workshop covered physiological measures such as electrodermal activity (EDA), as well as behavioral indicators like facial electromyography (EMG) and dynamic self-evaluation. The highlight of the seminar was an invited lecture by Dr. Weiyong Xu, also from the University of Jyväskylä, who presented cutting-edge research on the neural mechanisms underlying memory confidence. In addition, two students briefly introduced experimental work on emotion and memory in communicative contexts.
